Cllr Joshua Wells, Portfolio Holder for Inclusive Economic Growth, said:

“Events like the Festival of History not only celebrate Lincoln’s incredible heritage but also play a vital role in boosting our local economy.

“By attracting visitors from near and far, we’re supporting our independent businesses, creating opportunities for traders, and ensuring that Lincoln’s cultural assets remain accessible and thriving for everyone.”

Lee Roberts, Head of Operations at Lincoln BIG, said:

“We’re really excited to see the Festival of History return and grow. Following the success last year, it is great to see an event take over the whole city with so many partners coming together.”

A spokesperson from The Travelling Historical Market commented:

“Experience the sights and sounds of a medieval market inside one of Lincoln’s most historic buildings, St Mary le Wigford Church, which has its origins in the 10th century.

“Hosted by The Travelling Historical Market, you will discover a wide range of amazing artisan traders. Outside, learn more about medieval weapons and armour with entertaining talks. Our willow-weaver will be crafting and handing out willow animals to children, and there will be a chance to meet the owls brought by the ever-popular owl charity.”

Cllr Lindsey Cawrey, Executive Councillor for Culture at Lincolnshire County Council, said:

“After the success of the first citywide Festival of History last year that showcased the thrilling story of Lincoln, it’s a pleasure to see it return bigger and better this May.

“Highlights of last year’s event included the spectacular re-enactments staged at Lincoln Castle, and I’m thrilled the iconic venue is hosting another action-packed programme.

“This year, visitors can travel back in time to the Victorian period, meet travelling performers and get hands-on with interactive activities. Don’t miss your chance to experience a breathtaking acrobatic display on horseback, as well as awe-inspiring fire-juggling and flying knife shows.

“From the gripping journey through 1,000 years of history at Lincoln Castle to the hands-on activities at the Museum of Lincolnshire Life, there’s so much to discover across the festival.”
