The countdown is on! In less than a week, Lincoln’s city centre will transform into an icy winter wonderland as the Lincoln Ice Adventure takes place on 7 and 8 December.

This free, family-friendly event, organised by the City of Lincoln Council’s Events in Lincoln team, promises an unforgettable weekend of icy artistry, magical entertainment, and Christmas cheer.

Step into the adventure and help Santa solve the mystery of his missing sleigh piece, lost somewhere in Lincoln!

Follow a trail of 16 stunning ice sculptures, each holding a vital clue to complete an anagram. Can you crack the code to get Santa flying again in time for Christmas?

Participants can pick up a free event guide from the Visitor Information Centre prior to, or over the weekend to begin the quest! A free online version of the guide can also be downloaded here.

What to look forward to:

  • Ice Sculptures: View intricate designs created by Ice Box, open to explore from 11am to 5pm each day.
  • Live Ice-Carving: Watch the iconic Lincoln Imp come to life at St Paul in the Bail (12 noon – 3pm on both days).
  • Lincoln Light Trail: Discover festive illuminations at St Paul in the Bail, Steep Hill, the Cornhill, and more.

The event will also be packed with the following festive extras from 10am to 6pm on both days to make the weekend even more magical:

  • Maker’s Market: Explore unique, handmade treasures in Castle Square and Castle Hill car park.

This year’s event is proudly supported by local businesses, including THOR’s Tipi, Turtle Bay, the White Hart Hotel, Lincoln Castle, and Taylor Lindsey.

Amanda Monaghan, Director of THOR’s Tipi, shared her excitement: “We’re super excited to be involved in the Lincoln Ice Adventure! It was such a wonderful family event last year and really added to the festive atmosphere in the city.

“We can’t wait to have an ‘Ice Viking’ looking after our front door… We’ll be back serving delicious German hot chocolate, mulled wine and more throughout the festival.”

Cllr Lindsey Cawrey, Executive Councillor for Culture at Lincolnshire County Council, said:

“The Christmas season has well and truly landed in Lincoln! The lights are shining bright in Lincoln Castle and around the city. It’s such a pleasure to host one of the spectacular sculptures and we look forward to welcoming ice adventurers into the castle.

“Events like last week’s Light Switch-on, the Ice Adventure and Lincoln Castle Illuminated really bring the community together and get us all in the holiday spirit ahead of the big day.”

Feeling inspired? Members of the public are invited to submit their own designs for next year’s Ice Adventure!

A free design template can be downloaded here.

Completed designs must be dropped off at the Post Box Ice Sculpture on High Bridge, along with the artist’s name and contact details.

The winning design will be brought to life and displayed in the 2025 Lincoln Ice Adventure, offering a unique opportunity to be part of this Christmas event.

Cllr Joshua Wells, Portfolio Holder for Inclusive Economic Growth, said:

“This event is about bringing families and the community together to create magical memories while showcasing the very best of Lincoln’s sights and independent businesses during the festive season.”

“We can’t wait to welcome everyone this weekend for what promises to be a fun and enjoyable experience.”
