City of Lincoln Council is giving children and young people the opportunity to choose for the play area design that will replace the former St Giles Youth Centre site at a consultation next week.
Taking place at St Giles Community Centre at Swift Gardens on Monday, 17 February from 2.30pm to 6.30pm, the community evaluation event will enable children and young people to choose their favourite design.
In September 2016 the St Giles Youth Centre suffered catastrophic damage following arson.
The centre, operated by Lincolnshire County Council (LCC), was used to provide a number of services to the local community.
Following the arson, City of Lincoln Council worked with user groups to accommodate them within the nearby St Giles Community Centre on an informal basis.
Since the fire, the land has remained vacant and ownership has now been transferred from Lincolnshire County Council to the City of Lincoln Council.
Once chosen, final plans for the play park will be submitted to the council’s planning department, with the intention of work to begin in April 2020.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for children and young people in the area to have their say on the future of the site of the former St Giles Youth Centre.
“As a ward councillor for the area, this is something I have been striving for and it is exciting to see these plans coming to fruition.
“The fire in the area was devastating, however we hope that building this play park on the site will enable us to see something positive rise from the ashes of the former centre.
“This also highlights our commitment as a council to the estate and we look forward to meeting with the community to discuss further.”
