An introduction to the history of Lincoln Lunatic Asylum, 1820 - 1850 by Dr Hazel Kent - Senior Lecturer in History at Bishop Grosseteste University.

Later known as ‘The Lawn Hospital’, Lincoln Lunatic Asylum was the first in the country to totally ban mechanical restraint of patients. This talk will look at how the Asylum’s buildings and grounds were used to provide an alternative therapeutic approach which used ‘classification, kindness and occupation’.
