Thanks to a successful bid to the Big Lottery Fund ‘Children’s Play’ programme, we were able to extend the existing play area at the Lawn. Over £57,000 was spent to transform the Lawn play area into a real treat for the family.
The new equipment that embraces traditional wooden equipment including slides, climbing frames, swings and a running wheel, will keep toddlers and young children entertained for hours.
The ‘art-I-play system’ was installed in October 2008. I-play stands for ‘intelligent play’ and encourages children to lunge, bend, twist reach and run. LED lights that flash and make a noise guide players from one exercise to the next.
There are single and multiplayer options available which encourage the whole family to play together. A score is given at the end of each game and this can be registered online so scores can be compared.
In an average game, children run approximately 185 metres and in five minutes burn more calories than they would by playing tennis or swimming.
