Council Tax discounts

Ukrainian guests in private accommodation

If you move out of your sponsored accommodation into privately rented property or a home of your own, you will become liable for paying Council Tax.

The amount of Council Tax you have to pay will depend on the number of persons in the household and their circumstances. This may also include the permissions that they have to be in the UK.

If you have a Homes for Ukraine visa you may be entitled to a 50% discount if you live alone or if you and all the adults living with you also have a Homes for Ukraine visa.

When you move onto the Ukraine Permission Extension visa, this discount will no longer apply.

Visit the Government website for guidance on applying for the Ukraine Permission Extension scheme

You should tell us when your Homes for Ukraine visa ends and when your Ukraine Permission Extension visa starts. Please do this within 21 days of the change as you can be fined for not providing information that changes your eligibility for a discount.

The Council Tax system includes a number of different discounts and disregards to reduce your bill. So, if you lose your Homes for Ukraine discount, you might be eligible for a different discount.

You can find details of these on our website, or you can call us to talk to someone about whether there are any other discounts to reduce your bill.
