Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Guidance
Due to new regulations, the council are required to collect separately any material that might contain persistent organic pollutants (POPs). This is predominantly upholstered bulky items.
Items this includes, but is not limited to: sofas, armchairs, kitchen and dining chairs (if upholstered), stools and foot stools (if upholstered), office chairs, futons, bean bags, floor and sofa cushions.
We will still collect these items, but this may mean we need to visit you twice if you have multiple items, and in some circumstances on a different day. This is due to the need for different vehicles to collect the different types of waste.
When booking a collection, you will be required to identify any potential POPs items, and we ask that you secure any damaged, ripped, or torn items to reduce the risk of contact with the upholstered foam/materials inside. This can be done with tape. Please ensure that the items containing POPs are not touching any other bulky items for collection.
