Disabled facilities grant
Disabled facilities grants are available for a range of works to enable disabled people to live independently in their own home.
Disabled facilities grants will be awarded if the City Council is satisfied that the works are necessary, appropriate, reasonable and practicable.
The assessment of the needs of a disabled occupant will be undertaken by the Lincolnshire County Council.
Who can apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant?
- Tenants and owners can apply for the grant.
- All disabled facilities grants are means tested (unless the disabled person is a child or young person)
- The person who applies for the grant does not have to be the disabled person but the adaptations must be for a disabled occupant
What sort of works can be paid for by a Disabled Facilities Grant?
Essential works to enable a disabled occupant to live independently. This includes:
- Access ramps
- Level access showers
- Widening of doors
- Installation of a stair lift to allow access to upstairs rooms
- Adaptations to bathing facilities
- Adapting heating and lighting facilities to enable them to be used by more easily
How is the amount of Disabled Facilities Grants calculated?
It is a legal requirement that all disabled facilities grant applicants are means tested. This helps to ensure that those in the highest financial need are given the most amount of help. This is done through assessing the income of the disabled person and the income of the disabled person’s spouse or partner.
The maximum grant available £30,000.
How to apply
The disabled person’s physical needs will have to be assessed by Lincolnshire County Council.
New referrals need to go through Lincolnshire County Council’s Customer Services Centre.
